The West End production of Hairspray will embark on a major tour this summer, visiting more than 30 venues in the UK and Ireland.
It opens on August 16 at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, and will tour until early summer 2018. Casting will be announced in due course.
After Cardiff, the tour will visit Dartford, Dublin, Blackpool, Sunderland, Glasgow, Birmingham, Leicester, Buxton, Belfast, Aylesbury, Carlisle, Bradford, Guildford, Plymouth, Southampton, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Inverness, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Hull, Llandudno, Canterbury and Southend.
Set in Baltimore in 1962, the musical tells the tale of Tracy Turnblad, “a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart”, who is on a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV.
Hairspray is a musical based on the 1988 film of the same name by cult filmmaker John Waters, which starred Divine and Ricki Lake.
It opened on Broadway in 2002 and then in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007.
A film of the musical was released in 2007 which starred John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and James Marsden.
